The compressor is used to increase the pressure of a refrigerant gas. For
most systems this gas is called R22. The compressor is a vapor pump and
cannot pump liquid. The output from the compressor is called discharge gas
and it is in a heated high pressure state. The compressor is cooled by the
inlet gas called suction gas. This cooler gas passses over the motor windings
to cool the compressor during operation. The compressor is the heart of the
system.
